On Wednesday, the Chicago Bears revealed that defensive coordinator Alan Williams has left his position.
I’m taking a break to focus on my family and health. Williams expressed his gratitude for the chance to work with the illustrious and renowned Chicago Bears in a statement.
I appreciate the NFL shield and everything it stands for, and I intend to return to coaching after taking some time to take care of my health, he continued.
Williams, 53, has not been with the Bears since the previous week for what the group has identified as a personal reason.
Williams’ attorney, along with the Bears, claimed that a Chicago allegation about police involvement at the team facility was untrue.
Williams’ personal attorney, Chicago-based sports lawyer Andrew M. Stroth, told ESPN that Williams has tremendous respect for the Bears organization and he just thought it was the time to handle this health issue and his personal matters.
If there is no resolution with Williams, Bears coach Matt Eberflus will continue to call the defense this Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. He took over calling the defense against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
In February 2022, not long after Eberflus was appointed head coach of the Bears, the team hired Williams. Williams served as the Indianapolis Colts’ safeties coach for four seasons when Eberflus served as the defense coordinator for the organization. After working there for 10 seasons (from 2002 to 2011) as a defensive backs coach, it was his second tenure with Indianapolis.
