According to a statement from Apple, iOS 17 and iPadOS 17—the most recent versions of the operating systems for iPhones and iPads—will be accessible for download starting on September 18. At the WWDC conference earlier this year, the Cupertino-based company revealed iOS 17, iPadOS 17, MacOS 10, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17.
Apple beta testers and developers have already been given access to the iOS 17 Release Candidate, which gives them a preview of the operating system before it becomes generally available on September 18.
Following the introduction of new iPhone models, Apple continues to release software updates. On September 12, iOS 16 was made available, while iOS 15 was updated on September 20.
What are the new feature in iOS 17?
StandBy option
The StandBy feature in iOS 17 allows the iPhone to act as a central center for information. Users of iPhones will be able to view a variety of widgets, the display time, Live Activities, incoming alerts, and other customisable full-screen information on the locked screen thanks to the new functionality. Please be aware that the feature only functions when you charge your Apple iPhone.
New widgets
On Apple iPhones, iOS 17 adds interactive widgets to the lock screen and home screen. Both first-party and third-party apps are supported by these widgets.
NameDrop
By connecting two iPhones, the new NameDrop function will leverage AirDrop on the iPhone to make it easier to transfer contact information.
Update to Phone and Messages app
The Phone app in iOS 17 now features a customisable Contact Poster that lets users pick what their contacts view when they call them. In some areas, features like live voicemail and unknown caller mute will also be made available.
Updates to FaceTime app
In case they miss a call, iPhone users with iOS 17 can record and send an audio/video message. During a FaceTime connection, users can apply 3D effects to their video. On Apple TV, they can also initiate a FaceTime call.
