Real Madrid defeated RB Leipzig 1-0 on Tuesday, with Brahim Díaz scoring a spectacular goal following a solo run. This victory gives them a definite lead going into their Champions League round of 16 second leg next month.

In the 48th minute, the 24-year-old, standing in for the injured Jude Bellingham, scored a goal against the flow of play.

After that, Madrid made it seven straight victories in the competition this season thanks to a series of stops from keeper Andriy Lunin.

This is how it is here, it was challenging for us, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti remarked. “Both the first and second halves had challenging starts. Lunin performed the best game of his life.

We had a lot of offensive potential and had the opportunity to tie or score more in our transitions. This is really a little benefit.

After three minutes, goalscorer Benjamin Sesko gave the home team the impression that they had taken the lead in an exciting opening quarter. However, a VAR review resulted in his effort being rejected.

The Slovenian had one more opportunity before Real Madrid steadily evened the score and nearly got there with Rodrygo, who was playing in his 200th game for the team.

After the break, Leipzig picked up their aggression once more, but Real Madrid’s goal on the break hushed the home crowd.

After picking up the ball close to the sideline, Diaz dribbled past three defenders, cut into the area and curled a fantastic shot past custodian Péter Gulácsi.

Two minutes later, Lunin denied a Dani Olmo shot and then saved Sesko’s attempt to equalise off a rebound.

As Leipzig increased their chances to tie the score, Madrid, on the verge of victory, created opportunities and came dangerously close to scoring again in the 72nd minute when Vinícius Júnior threw the ball against the crossbar.

After being kept busy for the whole of the second half, Lunin performed admirably to stop Sesko and Olmo once more. Late in the game, he also successfully stopped an attempt by substitute Amadou Haidara.

Leipzig’s Gulacsi stated, “In the end, it was a great solo effort that decided the game.” We played well and weren’t the worst team out of the two, so it annoys us. In the second half, the game was open, and we had our opportunities.

Madrid was without a number of players due to injuries, including Thibaut Courtois, the custodian, and in-form Bellingham, the attacking midfielder. The return leg takes place on March 6 in Spain.
